Top 10 Boards of Education Technology

For some teachers and students who continue their education, technology May be second nature. But if you're an adult who is changing careers or has been at work with children, May you have some catching up to do. A good starting point is with essential skills in computer science.

But let's say you're not a total newbie. "In other words, let's say you have some computer savvy and you are not totally new to the world of technology. Here are the top ten things you need to think about:

1. Laptop or desktop?
If you do not have a decent computer, it's time to think about you. Personally, I recommend a laptop that you can take with you to class. You can type your notes directly into the computer, continue to work during breaks, take it with you to the library, then resume exactly where you were when you get to school. Of course, you may need a home-based desktop system, but you may want to consider some kind of portable device to help you along.

2. Take the example of a PDA
If you chose to stick to your office, you should seriously consider a PDA. What the devil is a PDA, you think? It means Personal Digital Assistant, and PDAs are able to tackle a whole lot of jobs. Although not a replacement for a laptop, the PDA can travel anywhere, and within its capabilities, it can replace your cell phone you on the Internet, keep you organized, and you can take notes. You can probably even listen to music on it.

3. Get a cell phone
Most of communication technologies as a basis for each student should have is a cell phone. It's a great little tool for storing important telephone numbers and sending text messages. Some allow you to record audio clips during class, or take a photo of important patterns, or information displayed. If you decide against a PDA, a cell phone is a necessity: most important for calling home to say you'll end of the school once more! Just do not forget to ask what you can pick up on the way back.

4. Getting school software
If you do not have decent word processor, spreadsheet or presentation software, you should consider buying Microsoft Office. Most software companies students for their prices more popular software and Microsoft is no exception. 5. Establishing a Wi-Fi
If you're not online before starting school, you should seriously consider is "hooked-up," preferably broadband or DSL Internet. Most campus and many workplaces allow wireless access, if you have a laptop, you should be able to get online easily at home, at work and at school. You'll also get a decent browser like Internet Explorer, Netscape or Firefox to take full advantage.

6. Learn to use your Web browser effectively
The Internet is ideal for students to do research. With the many reputable sites there, you'll find all kinds of excellent sources for research projects. But how to keep track of all this information, or find again when you need it? All Web browsers can bookmark sites so that you can find them later. 7. Do not forget your manners
R 4 U loan the test? No, if you use instant messaging-Lingo room to communicate with your teacher. Deal to return to school as you would for a job: When you write an e-mail, make sure another adult take you seriously. And when the composition of messages related to class work, using your school email account. Save "hotbabe101 @…" for personal correspondence. And do not rely on your spell exclusively! 8. Get a Grip on file management
There are few things more frustrating than spending hours on a test and then forget what you called when you sit at work. 9. Get a nice Smart Drive
"Smart Drive", "thumb drive," "USB flash drive", "USB key", "jump drive" ... what you call it, this is my favorite small device: a cute mini-disk drive that you can carry in your backpack or worn around the neck. Available with a variety of storage capacities, a car can cost less than $ 20. It just plug into the USB port of any computer and you appear as an external drive on the desktop. Then just drag and drop files to and from it. Too cool!

10. More ways to transfer data
If this is a file small enough, the easiest way to obtain data from one place to another is just for you send an attachment. You can also write files to recordable or re-recordable CD and DVD (just do not forget to label them ... another of my pet Peeves is having to many pop label CD on my computer just to see what 'ago .. above.) There are also Zip drives, portable players, etc etc. It never hurts to know all the options.
